The selection process of all major business schools is a multi-stage affair, beginning with the entrance test .The subsequent rounds are a combination of two or more of the following .
Historically, the rounds used to comprise GD and PI. However, in the last couple of years, institutes have started including the WAT as well, in some cases doing away with the GD altogether.
Have a look at the shortlisting criteria & the second stage GD WAT PI process of different IIMs.
Most of the IIMs shortlists candidates for WAT & PI based on applicants academic performance (Xth, XIIth and Graduation performance) and CAT 2016 (overall and sectional performance). However, each IIM has a unique shortlisting criterion and hence a few IIMs also consider work experience, academic diversity and gender diversity. All the old IIMs – IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode conduct their own WAT-PI process. The Personal Interview and Written Analysis Test is expected to be conducted at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. For new IIMs, the exact date for PI & WAT will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates by IIM Rohtak which is co-ordinating for 2017-19 batch on behalf of IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodhgaya & IIM Sambalpur (also referred to as “9 IIMs”).
In cases where candidates have been shortlisted by the 9 IIMs as well as older IIMs, IIM Rohtak would obtain the PI & WAT scores of such candidates directly from the older IIMs. Such candidates will be informed in advance by IIM Rohtak, and they need not appear for the common PI & WAT of the “9 IIMs”.
