Japan on 22 January 2016 lifted sanctions on Iran, falling in line with major world powers. Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary YoshihideSuga made the announcement. The sanctions were lifted after the United Nations atomic energy agency confirmed on 16 January 2016 that Tehran has fully taken steps to curb its disputed nuclear program.

Scientists spotted the potential planet by seeing the disturbances that it is causing in the gravitational field of the far solar system. There appears to be a great perturber upsetting the movement of other objects in that far away region.
- FRENCH PRESIDENT DECLARES ECONOMIC EMERGENCY
French President Francois Hollande on 18 January 2016 declared a state of economic and social emergency to redefine country’s economic and social model. To tackle the emergency, Hollande unveiled a 2 billion euro plan to revive hiring and catch up with a fast-moving world economy. Also, the government has proposed series of economic measures to revive long-stagnant economic growth and reduce chronic unemployment, which has been around 10 percent for years.
- WORLD BANK TO FUND 20 Mn US DOLLARS FOR INDIRA GANDHI ZOOLOGICAL PARK
In a global first, the World Bank in third week of January 2016 decided to extend an assistance of 20 million US dollar to help reconstruct the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP), which got devastated during cyclone Hudhud in October 2014, in Visakhapatnam.
- ALPHABET INC. BECOMES WORLD’S MOST VALUEABLE COMPANY
Shares of Alphabet Inc. opened nearly 3 percent higher on 2 February 2016 to become the world’s most valuable public company, replacing Apple Inc.Alphabet’s market cap hit about 570 billion US dollars, eclipsing Apple’s market cap of roughly 535 billion US dollars. Shares of Apple opened down nearly 1 percent on 2 February 2016.
- EU APPROVES 3.3 Bn EUROS FOR TURKEY
The European Union (EU) on 3 February 2016 approved 3.3 billion Euros in funding to help Turkey cope with the issue of Syrian migrants. At present, Turkey is home to around 3 million Syrians who fled the country since the beginning of the civil war in 2011.

World Cancer Day (WCD) 2016 was observed across the world on 4 February 2016. The day was observed with year’s theme – We can. I can.
- REGION CONFERENCE 2016 HELD IN LONDON
Supporting Syria and the Region Conference 2016 was held on 4 February 2016 in London. The objective of the conference was to discuss issues related to the over 5-year old civil war in Syria and measures to mitigate the humanitarian conflict faced by the country and the region as a whole.

North Korea’s National Aerospace Development Administration (NADA) on 7 February 2016 launched the Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite.

- BANGLADESH CANCELS THE PORT PROJECT WITH CHINA
The place Sonadia Island was in news on 8 February 2016. It was in news because, as per newspaper reports, Bangladesh cancelled China’s proposal to develop a deep sea port on the island that lies in the Bay of Bengal.

Storm Lmogen bashed away the parts of Southern Britain within heavy rains and winds on 8th February 2016. The environment agency has issued multiple flood warnings in the area.
- ASAD RAUF BANNED FOR 5 YEARS BY BCCI
The Disciplinary Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on 12 February 2016 banned Pakistan umpire AsadRauf for 5 years on charges of corruption and misconduct. The disciplinary committee took this decision after Rauf was found guilty of charges in relation to the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting and spot-fixing scandal of 2013.
