IBPS Prelims Exam Analysis 2017

7th and 8th October, 14th and 15th October

IBPS PO (Preliminary) Exam 2017 was held in four time slots - 2 each in morning and evening on both days. The exam ended on October 15, 2017. In step with the drift of changing exam patterns, IBPS PO Prelims 2017 exam differed from last year.

A total of 100 questions had to be answered in 60 minutes. All the other sections, except the English Language section, were available bilingually, that is, in both English and Hindi. Each correct answer fetched 1 mark while each incorrect answer reduced the score by 0.25.

English Language Section of IBPS PO Preliminary Exam 2017 (shift-wise variations):

The English Language section of IBPS PO Preliminary Exam 2017 comprised of questions based on Reading Comprehension, Spot the Errors and Phrase Replacement. The Reading Comprehension was based on economy which also catered to Synonym/Antonym based 4 questions (2 each). Spot the errors pattern slightly changed. One had to identify the parts in which there was no error. Cloze test went missing this year. The overall difficulty level of this section was rated moderate to difficult by our experts.

Reasoning Ability Section of IBPS PO Preliminary Exam 2017 (shift-wise variations):

The Reasoning Ability section of IBPS PO Preliminary 2017 was overshadowed by questions based on Analytical Reasoning. There were two sets of Data Arrangement questions with three variables to be arranged. In Parallel Arrangement, people were seated in North South direction with different colours for each person. In Box Arrangement, name and shape were to be ordered. Direction and Floor arrangement based questions required a smart approach. The pattern remained the same in 1st and 3rd shifts whereas variations were seen in the other shifts. Syllogism questions were replaced by Coding – Decoding questions. The overall difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate.

Quantitative Aptitude Section of IBPS PO Preliminary Exam 2017 (shift-wise variations):

The Quantitative Aptitude section of IBPS PO Preliminary 2017 saw a good assortment of topics. The pattern remained the same in 1st and 2nd shifts whereas variations were seen in the other shifts. As a replacement for Number Series, there were questions on Quadratic Equations in the 1st slot. Some commonly asked topics were Time and Work, Mensuration, Time Speed and Distance, Simple Interest & Compound Interest, Partnership, Age, Mixtures & Allegations and Profit, Loss and Discount. There were two sets of Data Interpretation. The overall difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate.
