Home > CAT Eligibility Criteria Clarification
A lot of students have found the CAT Eligibility Criteria given on the Page IV of the CAT 2008 Bulletin to be confusing. Especially, the second paragraph’s last three lines (…and has obtained at least 50% or equivalent (45% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) based on the latest available grades / marks.) is leading to the following questions:
  1) Should the students who are yet to complete their Bachelor’s / Master’s Degrees submit their aggregate till the last semester or just the percentage obtained in the last semester?
  2) Should the students who have completed their Bachelor’s / Master’s Degrees submit their final aggregate or just the percentage obtained in the final semester?

We have written to the IIMs to clarify on this matter. However, based on our Past Experience & the Logic from Section 1 of the bulletin (Box 18 & Box 19), we suggest the following:
  1) For students who are yet to complete their Bachelor’s / Master’s Degrees, Instructions for filling up Box 19 clearly instructs them to enter thepercentage of marks obtained for the years / semesters of the degree course completed till date – which in turn, has to be the aggregate till date since there is only one box
  2) For students who have completed their Bachelor’s / Master’s Degrees, Instructions for filling up Box 18 clearly instructs them to submit their aggregate till the last semester

Since there is some time for the last date for form submission, we suggest you check out this link regularly for confirmation from the IIMs. In the meantime, students can also get in touch with the IIMs themselves through the IIM Contact Details Link available through the link below.
