What is an MCA?
MCA is a 3 year Post Graduate Program in Computer Applications Provided by Universities in India. Following is the yearly course content of the Program.
- 1st year is devoted to Basic concepts in Computer Technology
- 2nd year is concentrates on Higher level concepts in Computer Applications
- 3rd year is devoted to Specialization and Industrial Project.
Autonomous Institutes in India provide various Post Graduate Diploma Programs in Computer Applications. These Programs are considered equivalent to an MCA and offer good Placement opportunities; at the same time they save precious time for you as most of these Programs are of a much shorter duration (1 or 2 year). However we would like to inform you that these Programs are often more costly compared with the regular MCA Programs, also since these Programs are spread over a shorter duration they are more intensive and you will need to put in extra effort to complete the Program with above average grades.
What are the eligibility criteria to pursue MCA?
Generally graduates in any discipline with Mathematics as one of the major subjects in Senior Secondary School i.e. classes (XI & XII) or above are eligible. Students in the final year of their graduation are also eligible provided they submit the proof of their completing graduation by a specified date. Some colleges require 50% aggregate in graduation. One or two colleges require you to be graduate in Maths.
If one had no Maths at plus two level is he eligible for MCA entrance tests?
Most institutes require you to have Maths as a subject in your 10+2 or graduation. Even if you do not have it at your 10+2 but in graduation, it will do. In case you do not have any then you have very few options left for you. Also, since the entrance tests are based on your aptitude in maths, you would certainly require having basic understanding of higher-level mathematics in order to clear the written test.
I am doing DOEACC 'A' Level but I did not have Math at +2 level, can I apply for MCA entrance?
Your DOEACC “A” Level does not in anyway compensate for maths. You necessarily need to have maths at your 10+2 or graduation
