The first step to seek admission Globally for any MBA program is an entrance test. Apart from the test, institutes use various other parameters to select students. In India there are multiple management entrance tests (unlike Global standards where GMAT is the only test). Further unlike the GMAT where a student can apply for the test at any time during the year, in India there are specific time lines of application and a specific date for taking the test. The most important tests in the country are held only once a year. Therefore if you miss an opportunity to apply in a particular year due to any reason you tend to lose a year.
It is therefore extremely crucial that you do not miss an opportunity if you are serious and understand the time lines of procuring a form and submitting it to the concerned authority. This section therefore is indispensable and gives you a complete picture of the tests, the institutes that use the test for selection, the exact dates of application and submission, procedure for application etc.
To enable you to understand the tests, INTRAC has classified these tests in 3 broad categories -
These are National level Entrance Tests whose scores are accepted by the institutes allied to them. Thus by taking one such test, you can apply to several B-schools. CAT, XAT, JMET, ATMA and MAT (as specified by the HRD ministry) fall in this category.
These tests are for admission to institutes within a particular State. For example, the Common Entrance Test (CET) & Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET) is for admission into B-schools of Maharashtra, and Gujarat respectively and so on. (These tests are conducted by the state government)
Some institutes independently conduct their own tests for admission to courses offered by them. For example, FMS, TISS, MFC, IMT etc. These tests are exclusive to the institute that conducts them (no other institute accepts their scores). For ease of understanding and to avoid confusion the INTRAC terms them as "Own Test".
