2. What is the quality of Campus Placements..?
The average placement package at top law schools ranges between
6-8 lakhs p.a. (2007). In the following year (2008), this figure is expected to
increase by 2-3 lakhs. The average annual pay packet for freshers joining Legal
Process Outstanding (LPOs) ranges between 4 to 7 lakhs while experienced
professionals may get over 10 lakhs .
3. What is the nature of placements provided for NLS students?
Students would get offers from a range of recruiters:
Law firms: Amarchand Mangaldass, Luthra & Luthra, and Law Commission
of India and ICICI
Organizations: Infosys Technologies, ITC, and IBM
NGOs: Human Rights Law Network, Sanlaap
Academic Institutions: Oxford University, Harvard University, and London
School of Economics.
4. Is the Test Too Tough..?
The difficulty level of the tests varies from easy to average. The tests are getting
tougher keeping in view the increasing competition but are still comparatively easier than engineering and other leading tests. The cut off score is high
since the questions are on the easier side. Two hours of dedicated study every
day would ensure that one gets through any law entrance exam. also, the syllabus
of law entrance tests is much lesser in comparison to tests relating to engineering
or medicine.
5. Are the questions in law entrance exams subjective?
Subjective questions used to be asked till 2007.
6. When will the first Common Entrance Test be conducted..?
The first Common exam is proposed to be conducted on 11TH May 2008 and will be
called the CLAT.
7. Which body conducts the CLAT?
The CLAT-2008 exam would be conducted by NLSIU Bangalore.
8. Where can you appear for this exam?
There would be more than 30 centres for the CLAT.
9. How many seats are available?
Almost all the NLS have 80 seats. A few schools like the NUJS, Kolkata, would
have between 100-125 seats. In totality, there are 2000 seats available at India’s
quality law schools.
10. Are there reserved quotas?
As per Govt. of India regulations there is a 22.5 % reservation
for SC/ST. Other reservations include between 5 to 20 seats for NRI students, 2 – 5
seats for the Physically Challenged 2-5 seats and 18 seats fro women but that’s
only at NALSAR
11. Which are the Institutes that provide NRI Quotas ?
Institutes like NLSIU, NUJS have these quotas.
12. Is there any age limit for seeking admission to law schools?
Almost all the law schools have capped the age to 20 yrs but a few like
NUJS and NLIU have the limit at 21yrs while schools like the Christ College of
Law has a limit of 22 yrs.
13. How are the BA, BBA, BSc, BCom and LLB different from each other and what are the eligibility criteria?
The BA/BBA/BSc/BCom LLB courses are hardly different, except for their slightly varying curriculum. The eligibility is the same for all the courses.
14. What is the scope for BCOM LLB and the eligibility?
BCom LLB is offered only by GNLU. It will be an added advantage for
students who want to make a career in Commerce and are at the same time
interested in Law. The basic eligibility is Std 10+2 pass with min 50% in aggregate with the student’s age not exceeding 20yrs as on 1ST July of the year.
15. Which is a better destination to pursue the LLM, USA or UK?
Both the Us and UK are good destinations to obtain the LLM degree. In top National law schools, 10-20 percent of students are opting for this option after completing BA LLB.
16. Are there possibilities for good foreign placements?
The 2003-2008 batch secured foreign placements in ppreciable numbers with the offers coming in from the best firms in both the UK and USA.
17. What is the approximate range of fees?
An approximate range of the fees would be:
Rs 42,000/- to Rs 60,000/- p.a - Annual Fees.
Rs 10,000/- to Rs 20,000/- p.a – Refundable component.
Rs 10,000/- to Rs 30,000/- p.a - Hostel Fees.
18. When does the session begin?
Almost all law Schools begin their sessions in July.

The NLS has a hostel facility.

There is 30 percent reservation for women at national law colleges.
21. How good are our new national law schools like Patiala and Lucknow?
They are all set to perform and will definitely pick up in the due course of time. These law schools are like the new IIT at Guwahati. (National law schools are like the IITs and IIMs of Law)
22. Is there any G.D or P.I.?
There is no such test in the NLS but Christ Church College has an interview session.
23. What is the duration of the entrance test?
Normally entrance tests have a time duration of 2 hours.
24. What is the cut off for ILS and GLC?
The cut-off for ILS is 90-92% while for the GLC it’s 80-84% (HS marks).

The course is designed for those students who are in 12th Std and are interested to take the Law entrance exams to be conducted after the year in which they are starting the course. Duration of the course is
10-14 months (ideally 12 months), with a break provided in between for board exam preparations.
