"Law is a great field for those who like to read, write and talk."

  Law: Myths and Facts

Myth 1.

Unlike other professions such as like Finance, Marketing, IT, etc. Law doesn’t have career challenge, excitement or scope.

Fact

Most people when asked about a career in Law would conjure up the image of an individual dressed in white and black representing a client in a court of law. Few know that Legal professionals are a wanted breed in organizations both Indian and international. Furthermore, the increasing incidence of Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) is creating a huge demand for Indian legal professionals. It is estimated that by 2010, 35,000 jobs will be outsourced by MNCs. Presently, the average pay package in top law schools ranges between 7-10 lakhs per annum. Next year, this will increase by 2-3 lakhs. To sum it up, the legal profession has abundant opportunities, challenges and rewards  for the career driven.

Myth 2.

Most national leaders went to law school. So the road to Law inevitably ends up in the domain of Politics.

Fact

The values of integrity and self-righteousness get ingrained in students in law schools. After all, these values are necessary for an individual who shoulders the responsibility of ensuring people and practices adhere to set laws. These values are also desirable in leaders in virtually any field, particularly politics. However the presence of these values in an individual does not render him a politician.

Myth 3.

You can only pass the law entrance if you have knowledge of Law.

Fact.

To be an efficient legal professional, you’d need to be good at logical reasoning. In number terms, the power of logical reasoning would comprise 80% of your skill set with legal knowledge making up the remaining 20%. After all, knowledge and facts won’t be of much use if you don’t know what to make of them.
