FMS 2009
Conducted on 11th January 2009, FMS this year comprised questions ranging from simple to tough. Students were allowed to take question booklets with them.
 
The FMS brochure clearly mentions that a student must get more than 50 percentile scores in each of the four sections to qualify the test and call letters to the students will be issued on the basis of overall percentile score.

Section 1: Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
This section comprised of questions from the all the areas like Arithmetic, Algebra , Geometry and Modern Maths.The questions from Arithmetic were based concepts of percentages, profit and loss, Simple and Compound interest, partnership etc. The questions from Modern Maths area were based on concepts of probability, permutation and combination etc.The questions in geometry were from Mensuration, trigonometry, circles etc. Limits, Statistics and Matrices made appearance in this test. The questions were medium level of difficulty but length of questions made this section time-consuming.
Selection the questions based on ones strong areas would be the best option to maximize the attempt. In this section there were two sets of Data Interpretation and they were calculation based. The good attempt in this section would be 15-16 in 40 minutes.
Section 2: Logical and Verbal Reasoning
This section comprised of 36 questions from logical reasoning area and 13 were based on critical reasoning. Questions based on critical reasoning were of higher level of difficulty.
In the reasoning section, questions based on arrow diagrams were easy. The questions set based on family tree was also easier. Single questions should have been preferred. Selection of question played critical role in this section to increase the attempts.
Few sets based on arrangements were also of medium level of difficulty. Thus, good attempt in this section will be 18-20 questions.
Section 3: Reading Comprehension
This section comprised of 5 passages and 7 questions based on each passage. Questions based on the passage were good mix of direct and indirect questions.Thus, instead of attempting the completed RC, selecting the direct questions will help to increase attempts in this section. 2 passages were of higher level of difficulty while the remaining three were of medium level of difficulty.
Good attempt in this section will be 18-20 questions.
Section 4: Verbal ability
This section had majorly word based questions.Syllogism were of higher level of difficulty and so should be the last choice. Questions in this section were based on antonym, idioms, multiple meaning and fill in the Blanks. The questions based on contextual usage were easy and should be a definite attempt. Questions on quotation reappeared but in the different format with answer options also as quotations.
Good attempt in this section will be around 24-25.
