CAT 2020 Notification!

The much awaited IIM CAT notification is out on the official IIM CAT website

Important Things to Know
  1. CAT 2020 Exam Date: CAT 2020 will be conducted on 29th November 2020. in two slots.
  2. CAT 2020 Exam Mode : Center- Proctored. CAT will be conducted in test centres spread across around 156 test cities.
  3. CAT 2020 Structure: CAT will be a three section test; duration of the test will be 180 minutes (60 minutes for each section).
    • Section I: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
    • Section II: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
    • Section III: Quantitative Ability
  4. CAT 2020 Important Features
    • Some questions in each section may not be of multiple-choice type. Instead, direct answers will have to be typed on the screen (called TITA questions).
    • An on- screen basic calculator will be provided

  6. CAT 2020 Application Fee
    • Rs. 2000/- for General & NC-OBC candidates
    • Rs. 1000/- for SC/ST/PWD candidates
  7. Programme Selection
    • The applicant can select any number of programmes.

  8. Category Reservation
    • Category Certificate Prescribed format : SC-ST / NC-OBC/ EWS.
    • Disability Certificate Prescribed format: PwD Form V/ VI/ VII

Reservation Policy at IIMs

As per the legal requirements, (Expected)

  • 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC).
  • 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST).
  • 27% of seats are reserved for “Other Backward Classes” candidates belonging to the “non-creamy” layer (NC-OBC).
  • 5% of the seats are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD).
  • Upto 10% of the seats are reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all India Entrance test conducted by IIMs, for admission to various business administration programs across the country, including 2-year full time postgraduate programs in management, a few Executive programs, Fellowship programs in Management at the IIMs, along with programs at other top Indian B-schools like IITs, FMS, S P Jain, MDI, and NITIE.

CAT 2020 Structure & Marking Scheme

CAT is a 3 section test; duration of the test is 180 minutes (60 minutes each section).

While the exact number of questions & marking scheme has not been mentioned in the CAT notification, it is expected that the pattern will be similar to CAT 2019

Candidates applying for CAT 2020 should fulfill any one of the following conditions:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree with the required percentage of marks.
  • Completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with required percentage.
  • Should be in the final year of Bachelor’s degree with required percentage.

SC/ST/PwD candidates should have minimum 45%. For General, EWS and NC-OBC candidates, the minimum is 50%.

CAT 2020 Test Cities

CAT will be conducted in test centres spread across around 156 test cities.
Note: Candidates will be given the option to select any four test cities in order of their preference.

Payment Mode: Online through Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking

Application Fee:

  • Rs. 1,000/- for SC/ST/PWD candidates
  • Rs. 2,000/- for all other candidates

As per the legal requirements

No change in the category will be entertained after CAT registration; hence, the applicants are advised to give attention while registering.

COVID-19 and Possible Disruptions: CAT 2020 process is to be conducted taking into account the COVID-19 crisis. The information provided by the CAT website is contingent upon the decisions and directions issued from time to time by the Central & State governments and IIMs. Candidates are advised to regularly check the CAT website for further information.
