The Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all India Entrance test conducted by IIMs, for admission to various business administration programs across the country, including 2-year full time postgraduate programs in management, a few Executive programs, Fellowship programs in Management at the IIMS, along with programs at other top Indian B-schools like IITs, FMS, S P Jain, MDI, and NITIE.

The official IIM CAT website has published the exam date: 25th November 2018. The CAT exam in 2017 was conducted on 26th November 2017 by IIM Lucknow, preceded by IIM Bangalore in 2016. This year, IIM Calcutta will conduct the test, with TCS as the technology support partner and Prof. Sumanta Basu, Convener for CAT 2018 exam announced the notification on 29th July 2018. Approximately 2 lakh candidates appear for CAT every year.

As per the eligibility criteria of CAT 2018, candidates should fulfill anyone of the following parameters:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with the required % of marks from a recognized university or institute as per the category*
  • Completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with required percentage*. 
  • Should be in the final year of Bachelor’s degree with required percentage*. 
  • No Age limit.

* SC / ST / PWD candidates should have minimum 45%. For General and NC-OBC candidates, minimum is 50%.

CAT 2018 exam will be conducted on 25th November 2018 in two slots!

  • 2 Slots. (Forenoon and Afternoon)
  • 180 minutes

CAT 2018 will be conducted by IIM Calcutta

CAT 2018 structure shall be 3 sections as mentioned below. However, breakup of number of questions is yet to be announced. In 2017, the exact question break-up was as mentioned below:

Online Registrations for CAT 2018 commences 8th August 2018
CAT 2018 Test Registration and Test Payment closes Extended till 26th September 2018. Candidates with improper/blur photographs can login and re-upload their photograph from 27th September 2018 (10:00 AM) to 30th September 2018 (5:00 PM). This is valid only for those candidates who have paid applicable Registration Fee and have registered successfully for CAT 2018 before the specified deadline.

As per media release, CAT 2018 exam will be conducted in test centres spread across 147 cities in comparison to 140 cities in 2017. Click here to view all the test cities. Candidates will be given option to select any four cities in order of their preference.

The CAT 2018 registration process will to be completely online like last year. All aspirants can visit the official website of CAT and click on the ‘Registration’ tab to register online and generate a USER ID and Password via email and SMS.

Once you have received the CAT 2018 User ID and Password, you can complete the CAT registration process by filling up the CAT 2018 Application form on the official CAT website.

Candidates must declare and maintain a valid and unique email account and mobile number throughout the selection process.

As per CAT 2018 media advertisement, the application fee is as mentioned below:

  • Rs 1,900/- was the fees for General & NC-OBC) candidates
  • Rs. 950/- was the fees for SC/ST/PWD candidates
  • Payment mode Online only: Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking

The CAT 2018 online application form is most likely to be divided into the following sections:

  • Personal Details
  • Academics
  • Work Experience
  • Programmes-Selection of IIMs and programmes offered by them
  • Select the Test Centre and Interview City

Once an applicant has filled up all the required information in a section, one can click on the ‘Save & Next’ option. As the next step, applicant will be required to upload your photograph and signature in the respective sections. The CAT 2018 registration process ends by making the payment of the application fee via Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking.

As per the legal requirements,

  • 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and
  • 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
  • 27% of seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “non-creamy” layer (NC-OBC).
  • 5%  of the seats are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD).

No CHANGE in the category will be entertained after CAT registration; hence, the applicants are advised to give attention while registering.
