XAT 2019 Test and XLRI Jamshedpur Application Process

Dear MBA Aspirants,

The XAT 2019 and XLRI-Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur’s MBA 2019-21 notification was out on 17th August 2018! Registration for the same has begun from 20th August 2018.

About XAT: Xavier Aptitude test (XAT) is a national level management aptitude test. XLRI conducts XAT on behalf of the XAMI. For more than 60 years XLRI is conducting XAT at all India level to select the most appropriate students for management education. The XAT score is being used by more than 150 institutes for the admission. XAT 2019 shall be conducted online format.

NewThis year the XAT 2019 overall pattern remains same as last year but NO ESSAY. The exam shall consist of the following sections only: Quantitative Ability, English Language & Logical Reasoning, Decision Making, GK.

The application process for XAT and XLRI-Xavier School of Management is with the same application form by paying an additional amount as per the choice of XLRI program.

Following are the test registration and details for XAT and XLRI registration process.

  • Test Name: Xavier Aptitude Test
  • Test date: Sunday, 6th January 2019
  • Test Time: 10.00 am to 01.00 pm
  • Eligibility for XAT, XLRI- BM and HRM program: Recognized Bachelor’s Degree of minimum three years duration or equivalent in any discipline. Those completing their final examination by June 10, 2019 may also apply.
  • All Indian candidates must appear for XAT 2019. However, NRI and Foreign candidates may apply through GMAT score.
  • XLRI Program(s) Name and Seats: PGDM- Business Management (BM): 180, PGDM- Human Resource Management (HRM): 180
  • XLRI Program Fees: Batch of 2018-20: BM and HRM: 21, 00,000 (The Institute reserves the right to revise fee)
  • XLRI Placement Statistics: 2016-17: Median Salary: Rs. 19.21Lakhs

XAT Marking Pattern:
As per 2018: All questions carry EQUAL marks. Leaving a question UNATTEMPTED may result in a DEDUCTION OF 0.05 MARK. However, this deduction will not apply for a MAXIMUM OF 8 UNATTEMPTED QUESTIONS. The negative marking is 0.25 marks per question.
There shall be No Negative Marking for Part II.
The questions in the four sections are in the MCQ format with 5 options each.

2nd Stage Selection Process:
BM: GD for 20 minutes followed by a PI with mostly 3 panelists of 25-30 minutes.
HRM: Case study or group exercise for 20 minutes (3 minutes given in the beginning to think and 20 seconds at the end to each participant to summarize) with about 10 allotted participants followed by a PI with three panelists.

Example of group exercise: a scenario was given followed by 7 courses of action, which participants had to rank in order of preference, followed by a discussion and deciding on a group ranking for each course of action. The interviews lasted for 20-25 minutes on an average and were stress interviews at times.

  • Mode of Application: Online Mode.
    • The application form is integrated with the payment gateway and the payment process can be completed by following the instructions.
    • The payment can be made by using Debit Cards (RuPay / Visa / Master Card / Maestro), Credit Cards and Internet Banking.
    • On successful completion of the transaction, an e-Receipt will be generated.Non-generation of 'E-Receipt' indicates PAYMENT FAILURE. On failure of payment, Candidates are advised to login again using their XAT ID and Password and repeat the process of payment.
    • Candidates are required to take a printout of the e-Receipt and online Application Form. Please note that if the same cannot be generated, online transaction may not have been successful.
    • To ensure the security of your data, please close the browser window once your transaction is completed.
  • XAT and XLRI Application Fees:

Without Late Fee:
For XAT: Rs. 1,700/-
For XLRI: XAT fees: Rs.1, 700 and Rs. 300/- per XLRI course.

With Late Fee:
For XAT: Rs. 2,000/-
For XLRI: XAT fees: Rs.2,000/- and Rs. 500/- per XLRI course.

Indian Candidates applying for GMP through GMAT: Rs. 2500/-  

NRI/Foreign Candidates applying for one or more programmes through GMAT: Rs. 5000/- 

The candidate desirous of joining any of XAT Member Institutes has to follow the steps given below:

  • Register for XAT 2019 at xatonline.net.in
  • Obtain the Application Form after registering online by making appropriate payment. Further details can be obtained from the respective Institution's website or their Admissions office. Follow their registration/application procedure.
  • Candidates may please note that XLRI does not ascertain quality of the degree or programme(s) offered by other XAT Associate Institutions.
  • Please note that each institution independently decides the weightages to be given for each of the test components on the basis of its needs. XLRI does not play any role in selection of the candidates in these institutes.


  1. All payments made for registration for XAT and XLRI are non-refundable.
  2. The XAT Score Card containing the performance of the candidate in XAT 2019 will be mailed individually to all the candidates.
