Hi All,

We are nearing completion of Centralized Admission Process (CAP round) of Mah Law CET (5 yrs) 2018 programs. Similar to 2017, CET authorities adopted a different approach for first two rounds & the third one in 2018. In third round, all students whose entry into first two rounds was rejected due to incomplete forms or incorrect details, were given a chance to participate. Also, students who did not participate in first two rounds got a chance to enter admission process in third round. As a result, third round cut-offs will not be representative ones & hence not a fair reflection of student preferences of certain colleges over others. Hence, we have summarized rank behaviour over first two rounds only. Below table represents Top 10 colleges in terms of opening-closing ranks

Note –

  • MS – Maharashtra State, OMS – Outside Maharashtra State
  • Colleges are arranged in the ascending order of General Category (MS) Round 1 closing ranks

Here are a few observations –

  • Overall closing ranks saw significant upward movement. Round 1 closing ranks for Top 5 colleges went till 1100 (MS) & 400 (OMS) in round 1 in 2017. This year, these seats were exhausted within 350 (MS) & 230 (OMS) ranks respectively! Same colleges were preferred by both MS & OMS candidates among Top 5 slots
  • Closing ranks in round 2 are understandably higher as compared to round 1, since not many students surrendered the seat allotted in round 1, increasing competition in round 2. The trend was same among MS & OMS students. In a nutshell, at least Top 10 colleges are becoming more aspirational among law aspirants
  • Top 10 colleges preferred by students haven’t changed much over 2017. GLC (Mumbai), ILS (Pune) & Pravin Gandhi Law College (Mumbai) shared top 3 slots
  • Firodia, Pune (Fergusson College) entered Top 5 preferred college league. It was preferred over a few Mumbai based colleges as well. Either it is being seen in better light by people at large OR more students from Pune have done relatively better in exam this year & chosen Fergusson, a local preference. We don’t know for sure, since we do not have city wise break up of test takers’ count. Hence, both possibilities exist
  • Top 10 student preferences are concentrated in Mumbai or Pune. Students from other cities/states should be willing to relocate to either of these cities in order to avail learning environment, perceived to be better than colleges in other cities like Nagpur

Hope this information helps Mah Law CET (5 yrs) aspirants in coming times to make an informed decision about selection of Maharashtra based law colleges. All the best!
