The conventional path to a degree in law meant 3 years in graduation, followed by 3 Yr. LL.B degree. Students who decide their career in the early stages of their academic life can save one year by pursing integrated LL.B degree, directly after class XII. Many law colleges in Maharashtra offer this program. Until 2016, admission to law colleges in Maharashtra was on the basis of aggregate marks scored in class XII.
In the beginning of 2016, Government of Maharashtra issued a notification, declaring Law as a professional course. Subsequently, MAH law CET was announced to screen students desirous of pursuing 5-year BLS / LLB course, directly after class XII. MAH law CET is conducted by state common entrance test cell. Over 16000 students had registered for MAH Law CET (5 Yr. LLB) 2018. MAH Law CET (5 Yr. LLB) 2019 is scheduled on 21st April 2019 (Sunday).
