SBI PO Prelims 2017 Day 1 analysis

The exam structure was same as the last year. The paper had 3 sections, 5 options per question. As per the notification, one mark was allotted for each correct answer and a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. The difficulty of this exam can be rated at Moderate.

The section-wise analysis is given below:

English Language

Overall this section was of moderate difficulty level; however some questions were quite easy. SBI surprised the aspirants this time by offering “phrase replacement” questions, some of which were tough to answer. 

The best approach to maximize score in this section should have been to attempt cloze test, the easy phrase replacement questions first and then think of attempting the Reading Comprehension. Some questions in the passage were analytical and were tough to crack. 

Overall, this section was extremely scoring.

Reasoning Ability:

This section was of moderate level too. No input-output questions were seen just like the previous year (2016). One question from Puzzles & 2 Seating Arrangement sets were seen in the papers. The linear arrangement set was difficult whereas the circular arrangement set was quite easy.

Note:  The best approach for this section was to solve Blood relations, Inequalities, Directions and then move to solving Linear Arrangement, Floor arrangement leaving the remaining ones for the last. 

The level of difficulty of this section was moderate. A good score in this section will help the aspirant in achieving the overall cut-off which is expected to be high for SBI PO this year.

Good Attempts: 24- Questions with 85-90% accuracy
Good Score: 20-22
Time: 25 minutes

Quantitative Aptitude:

This section was rated at Moderate levels in terms of difficulty. DI had 2 sets, one tabular and one line graph. There were 5 simplification questions, which were fairly easy.

*Miscellaneous included one question each from topics like Averages, Percentages, Profit and Loss, Time Speed and Distance,  Simple and Compound Interest , Time and Work etc.

The best strategy for quant section was to begin by attempting questions based on Approximations and Number series first and then gradually move to the other questions. Some questions in the beginning and mid-paper were sitters, which is why these were best left for last.

Time: 20 minutes

Conclusion:  We estimate a total of 60-65 attempts with 90% accuracy to give the aspirants, the best way forward.
