Important Announcement: IIM Udaipur Exits CAP for MBA Admission

16 September, 2025
Radhika Joshi

In a significant development for MBA aspirants, especially those preparing for the CAT 2025 exam, IIM Udaipur has announced its withdrawal from the Common Admission Process (CAP). This institute will conduct its own admission process for its Two-Year MBA program starting with the 2026–28 batch.

IIm Udaipur Exits CAP For MBA Admission

The Common Admission Process (CAP) serves as a standardized selection method for candidates seeking admission to MBA programs offered by the nine newer Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). These institutes include IIM Raipur, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur, IIM Bodhgaya, and IIM Jammu. CAP takes place after the CAT examination and acts as a central mechanism for evaluating and shortlisting applicants.

Recently, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Raipur, IIM Kashipur, and IIM Ranchi announced the introduction of the Joint Admission Process (JAP) for admissions to their MBA programs for the academic year 2026. In this new arrangement, IIM Raipur will function as the coordinating institute for managing the JAP 2026. This marks a significant shift in the admissions approach among these participating IIMs.

Detailed Breakdown of the Announcement

  • IIM Udaipur has announced a significant shift in its admissions process for the 2-Year MBA program, beginning with the 2026-28 batch. The institution will independently manage admissions, stepping away from the Common Admission Process (CAP) coordinated by other newer IIMs.
  • This strategic move allows IIM Udaipur to establish admission criteria closely aligned with its academic objectives and international outlook.
  • The selection process will now emphasize elements unique to IIM Udaipur’s culture and distinctiveness, offering a more streamlined and student-focused experience.
  • According to the institute’s shortlist, prospective candidates appearing for CAT 2025 who meet IIMU’s eligibility will receive invitations for the Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) rounds. These assessments will be conducted in major cities and on the IIM Udaipur campus, ensuring broader accessibility for applicants from across India.
  • For those targeting Udaipur, it is important to prepare for a distinct application process. Staying vigilant and informed through the official website is highly recommended, as further announcements could impact the steps you will need to take.
