What is CAT Exam?

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a national-level management aptitude test for aspirants who wish to pursue a career in management and business administration. Candidates who have completed their bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks (45% for reserved categories, as per CAT eligibility norms) or are in the final year of graduation are eligible to appear for CAT.

CAT is conducted once every year, generally in late November, in multiple slots. Results are typically announced in December, following which participating institutes begin their shortlisting process.

What is the format of CAT?

CAT currently consists of three sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability. Each section has a time limit of 40 minutes, and the sections appear in the same order. On the basis of CAT percentile, past academic performance and profile, candidates are shortlisted for subsequent rounds. Depending on the institute, shortlisted candidates may be required to appear for the Written Ability Test (WAT), Personal Interview (PI), Group Discussion (GD), or other selection processes. The final results are declared sometime around April and the academic session begins around June.
