The highest weightage is given to the reasoning section, which is worth a total of 100 marks, followed by verbal ability and quant, respectively worth 50 marks each. Within the reasoning section, there is a further subdivision between abstract and logical reasoning, while the verbal ability section also includes questions on reading comprehension. With less than a minute per question, students will need to be extremely quick in reaching the right conclusions while maintaining accuracy. Colleges like JBIMS and SIMSREE have cutoffs as high as 99.99% or 150+ marks, leaving little room for error.

Logical and Abstract Reasoning

As per the official syllabus, the questions in this section are designed to test the accuracy of your analytical and critical thinking faculties. Most questions will be based on diagrams, graphs, and patterns and will require you to identify patterns and relationships to reach data-backed conclusions. Often, some verbal reasoning questions are also thrown into the mix. 

The most important topics are series and arrangements, followed by critical reasoning and analogies. This section demands speed and accuracy, without which you might not be able to breach the 150 marks.

Quantitative Skills

The questions in this section will test your ability to work with numbers and related computational processes under pressure. Apart from basic mathematical functions, you’ll also be expected to interpret and manipulate data from graphs and tables to gain insights.

Fortunately, the difficulty level of this section is low, giving students ample opportunity to score well. 

Arithmetic and data interpretation corner more than half the weightage. Your primary focus should be on ensuring you study those two well. If time permits, work on data sufficiency and algebra questions.

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension

In this section, the spotlight will be on your comprehension and language skills. Your grasp on the English language will be assessed through questions on grammar, sentence corrections, vocabulary, word usage, and sentence completions. In the reading comprehension part, your understanding of the passages and ability to draw out ideas from the text will be critical.

This is the section where most students end up losing marks due to sheer negligence. Overconfidence in their verbal ability can leave them confused between the different closely related MCQ options for each question. It’s better to practice enough, grasp the right method to approach each question, and write mocks.
