Picking the right five-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) outside the IIMs can feel overwhelming. Here, we break down three top institutes—IFMR GSB, Nirma University, and NALSAR University of Law—to help you make an informed choice.
While IIMs are often the top pick for undergraduate students, other institutes like IFMR GSB (Krea University), Nirma University, and NALSAR University of Law are strong alternatives. Each offers its own mix of culture, academics, and placement options. In this blog, we’ll look at these five-year IPM programs in detail, covering seat intake, entrance exams, fees, and brand value.

1. Location and Seat Capacity

The next five years will shape your education and career, so it’s important to choose your college carefully. Where your college is located can affect your comfort and daily commute.

IFMR GSB

IFMR GSB is located in Shri City, Andhra Pradesh, within a busy industrial area. The campus offers a focused environment and has 80 seats available for its IPM program.

Nirma University

Nirma University is in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and operates on a larger scale. It offers 240 seats in total: 156 for the All India category, 48 for Gujarat state students, and 36 for NRI or NRI-sponsored candidates.

NALSAR

NALSAR, based in Hyderabad, offers its IPM program in a specialized ‘justice city’ setting. There are 66 seats for Indian students and 13 for foreign nationals. Of the Indian seats, 75% go to All India applicants and 25% are reserved for Telangana students.

2. Entrance Exams and Selection Criteria

The entrance process for these programs is different at each college, but there are some similarities that can help you prepare.
If you plan to take the IPMAT Indore exam, you’re in luck—all three colleges accept this score. However, each has its own selection criteria:

IFMR GSB

This college is the most flexible. You can apply with your Krea Aptitude Test, SAT, IPMAT Indore, or JEE Mains scores. Final selection depends on your entrance test and Personal Interview, but the exact weightage for each is not shared.

Nirma University

For the All India category, Nirma only accepts the IPMAT Indore score. Their selection process gives 50% weight to the IPMAT Indore score, 30% to the Personal Interview, and 20% to your Class 12th board marks. So, students aiming for Nirma need strong school grades to get admitted.

NALSAR

You can apply with either the IPMAT Indore score or take NALSAR’s own entrance test, NMAT UG. The selection process gives 75% weight to the entrance test and 25% to the Personal Interview.

3. Fees and ROI

It’s important to compare the cost of your education with your potential starting salary to understand your Return on Investment (ROI).

IFMR GSB

The BBA tuition fee is Rs. 5 lakh per year, rising to Rs. 8 lakh per year for the MBA phase. Hostel fees are about Rs. 2.25 lakh per year. The average placement package is 12.04 lakhs per year, with the highest at 21.32 lakhs.

Nirma University

The BBA tuition fee is Rs. 4 lakh per year. The MBA fee is set each year, and the hostel fee is Rs. 1.5 lakh per year. The average placement package is 11 lakhs per year. Recently, the highest package reached 70 lakhs, which was unusual but shows the university can attract top recruiters.

NALSAR

This is the most affordable option. The academic fee is Rs. 3.2 lakh per year for both BBA and MBA. Hostel fees are Rs. 1.3 lakh, making the total yearly cost about Rs. 4.5 lakh. The average placement package is 7.48 lakhs per year, with the highest at 12 lakhs.

4. Campus Life and Specialised Facilities

Because all three programs are residential, campus life will be a big part of your experience.

IFMR GSB

IFMR GSB has a 40-acre campus with air-conditioned residential towers and smart classrooms. For finance students, the real-time NSE simulated training lab is a highlight, especially for those interested in equity, stock markets, and financial research.

Nirma University

Nirma University has an award-winning green campus and a fully vegetarian environment. Facilities include a Bloomberg terminal with access to over 1,000 e-journals, startup incubation centers, and EV charging stations.

NALSAR

NALSAR’s campus supports legal-management research and interdisciplinary study. Students have access to virtual learning spaces, an e-library, and specialized labs for their curriculum.

5. Brand Value and Cultural Fit

Each college caters to a different “vibe” and professional goal.

IFMR GSB is part of Krea University, known for its focus on liberal studies and interwoven learning. With 50 years of finance research, it offers a fast-paced, diverse environment with students from all over India.

Nirma University is synonymous with high discipline and a strong industrial legacy. It is the premier choice for students interested in family business and entrepreneurship, as the campus culture actively promotes startup activities and business scaling.

NALSAR holds a prestigious NIRF #3 ranking among law institutes. It is a niche college that thrives at the intersection of law, business, and policy. If you are interested in an ethically grounded, multi-disciplinary approach with a balanced gender demographic, NALSAR is a great fit.

IFMR vs NIRMA vs NALSAR

  • Choose IFMR if you are passionate about finance and want a diverse, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Choose Nirma if you have a strong academic record in school and are focused on entrepreneurship or family business.
  • Choose NALSAR if you want to explore the legal and policy aspects of management at a highly ranked, cost-effective institution.
Regardless of your choice, all three institutions provide a robust foundation for a successful career in management.
