MBA/MMS CET 2022 – Day 1 Analysis | IMS

CET 2022  Day 1  (Slot-1)

August 23, 2022 (2:00 pm to 4:30 pm) 

The first slot of Day 1  CET-2022 took place today (August 23, 2022, between 2 pm and 4:30 pm.)  CET 2022 is being held on three days from August 23rd to August 25th. 

 

This analysis is based on the feedback received from IMS students and experts who appeared for the first slot of CET 2022 on the first day.

 

CET-2022 maintained a total of 200 questions. As in CET-2021, the question paper was not divided into different sections. In terms of Level of Difficulty, the test was easier as compared to CET-2021. The test layout was similar to CET-2021. The buttons such as Mark for Review etc appeared at the bottom of the screen.

  • First slot of CET-2022 was easier than CET 2021. 
  • As usual, CET 2022 consisted of 200 questions to be attempted in 150 minutes
  • Since there is NO Negative Marking in CET, candidates are expected to attempt all 200 questions. 
  • IMS estimate of good attempts refers to the number of serious attempts and excludes random attempts.   

 

Verbal Ability/Reading Comprehension (50 Questions)

 

VARC consisted of 50 questions with 23 VA questions and 27 RC questions. Overall, the VARC  was easier than in the previous year.

 

The number of Reading Comprehension passages was six in the first slot. The passages were easy to read and were accompanied by mostly direct questions. The topics for the passages were based on:

  1. An extract from ‘The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’s by Arthur Conan Doyle – 150 words
  2. Sarcasm as a form of communication – 450 words
  3. Common cold – 350 words
  4. Civilization and machines – 450 words
  5. A father’s advice to his son on how to behave with other children – 500 words
  6. Crises in the Indian economy post Independence – 350 words

 

The VA section had familiar question types. 

– There were around 7 questions based on synonyms and antonyms.

– There were 4 jumbled paragraph questions. All questions were to be answered from a single set of statements. 

– The Odd Sentence, Fill in the blanks, Replace the Underlined Words in the Passage type of questions were also easy

 

Most of the VA questions could be answered quickly with high accuracy.

Quantitative Aptitude

There were about 36 questions on Quantitative Aptitude in the first slot of CET. There were two sets with a total number of 8 questions on Data Interpretation. Contrary to last year, there were 16 questions from Data Sufficiency. DS questions were of two types – 3 statements DS and 24 statements DS. The level of difficulty of the questions on Quantitative Aptitude was easy. 

The questions on Quantitative Aptitude were dominated by questions on Arithmetic. There were about 21 questions on Arithmetic and all the subtopics in Arithmetic (such as Time-Speed-Distance, Averages, Ratio-Proportion, Time & Work, mixture & Alligations, Percentages, Simple and Compound Interest) were represented. 

Other topics on which questions were asked on Quantitative Aptitude were Algebra (3 standalone, 3 DS questions) , Geometry (2 standalone, 5 DS questions), and Modern Mathematics (2 questions- on  Probability).

Data Interpretation (8 Questions)

There were two sets on Data Interpretation – one on Line Chart with 5 questions and the other on Data Table with 3 questions. Mostly the questions were easy based on simple calculations.

Logical Reasoning (80-85 Questions)

Questions on Logical Reasoning were totally dominated by questions on non-verbal reasoning. There were 76 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning. Out of the 76 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning, 23 questions were set-based (5 sets: Linear Arrangement – 1, Coding – 1, Matrix Arrangement – 2,  Selection Criteria -1) and there were 53 standalone questions.

Out of the 5 sets, the Linear arrangement has 4 questions. The set from Coding has 5 questions. Matrix Arrangement has 2 sets of 5 questions each. Selection Criteria has one section with 4 questions.

Out of the 53 standalone questions, some questions could have been considered as part of a set but they were scattered across the paper. The difficulty level of the questions was easy. 

In Verbal Reasoning, there were 6 questions on Syllogisms. The questions were easy.

The overall difficulty of the questions on Logical Reasoning was easy to moderate.

 

Visual Reasoning

There were 25 questions on Visual Reasoning. There were questions on series completion, analogies and odd man out like in recent years. The overall difficulty level was in the range of easy to medium.
