MH-CET 2023 – Day 1 Analysis

CET 2023  Day 1  (Slot-1) 

March 25, 2023 (9:00 am to 11:30 am) 

The first slot of Day 1  CET-2023 took place today (March 25, 2023 between 9 am and 11:30 am.)  CET 2022 is being held on two days from March 25-March 26. 

This analysis is based on the feedback received from IMS students and experts who appeared for the first slot of CET 2023 on the first day.

CET-2023 maintained a total of 200 questions. As in CET-2022, the question paper was not divided into different sections. In terms of Level of Difficulty, the test was easier as compared to CET-2022. The test layout was similar to CET-2022.

  • First slot of CET-2023 was easy, similar to CET 2022. 
  • As usual, CET 2023 consisted of 200 questions to be attempted in 150 minutes
  • Since there is NO Negative Marking in CET, candidates are expected to attempt all 200 questions. 
  • IMS estimate of good attempts refers to the number of serious attempts and excludes random attempts.   

Verbal Ability/Reading Comprehension 

VARC consisted of 55 questions with 14 RC questions and 41 VA questions. Overall, the VARC  was easy and was around the same difficulty level as in the previous year.

The number of Reading Comprehension passages were two in the first slot. One of the passages was about Education and Culture. This was shorter and easier to read. It had 5 questions. The other passage was about the Obsession with Power in Modern Society. This one was slightly longer and had 9 questions. 

The VA section had familiar question types. 

– There were around 8 questions based on synonyms and antonyms.

– There were 6 questions on Fill in the Blank (1 blank) and 4 questions on Idioms/Proverbs.

– In addition, there were questions on Replace the italicised words, Arrange the words (in dictionary order), Spot the Error, Improve the Sentence (by replacing the indicated part).

The VA questions were a fair mix of easy and moderate questions with a few difficult ones.

Most of the VA questions could be answered quickly with high accuracy.

Quantitative Aptitude

There were about 36 questions on Quantitative Aptitude in the first slot of CET. There were two sets with a total number of 10 questions  on Data Interpretation. Unlike last year, there were no Data Sufficiency questions this year. The level of difficulty of the questions on Quantitative Aptitude was easy. 

The questions on Quantitative Aptitude were dominated by questions on Arithmetic. There were about 21 questions on Arithmetic and all the subtopics in Arithmetic (such as Time-Speed-Distance, Averages, Ratio-Proportion, Time & Work, Mixtures & Alligations, Percentages, Simple and Compound Interest) were represented. 

Other topics on which questions were asked on Quantitative Aptitude were Numbers and Modern Mathematics.

Data Interpretation  

There were two sets on Data Interpretation – one on Pie Chart with 5 questions and the other on Data Table with 5 questions. Mostly the questions were easy based on simple calculations.

Logical Reasoning 

Questions on Logical Reasoning were dominated by questions on Non-Verbal reasoning. There were around 74 questions in the Reasoning section. In Non-Verbal Reasoning, there were Arrangements, Family Tree, Venn Diagram, Coding Decoding, Directions, Number Series, Groups & Conditionalities etc.

No question on  Selection Criteria and Sequential Output Tracing.

In Verbal Reasoning, there were 5 questions on Syllogisms, 2 on identifying the odd word out of the given words, and 2 on analogies. The questions were easy.

Overall difficulty of the questions on Logical Reasoning was easy to moderate.

 


Visual Reasoning

There were 25 questions on Visual Reasoning. There were questions on series completion, analogies and odd man out like in the recent years. The overall difficulty level was in the range of easy to medium.
