Environmental Planning and Design- Environmental considerations in Planning and Design, Natural and Man-made ecosystem, Environmental pollution- Causes, Types, Sustainable Development, Controls and Abatement Strategies, Built Environment and Climate Change and Climate Responsive Design.

Landscape, Urban Design, and Conversation:  Elements of urban design, including, space, urban form, structure, texture, fabric, pattern, concepts and theories of urban design, grain, tools, principles and techniques of urban design, spatial qualities, character, public spaces, sense of place and urban design interventions for transportation and sustainable development.

Development controls-  Urban renewal and conservation, FAR, Densities and Building bylaws, Historical public spaces and gardens, heritage conservation, site planning, and landscape design.

Housing- Concepts, Housing typologies, residential densities, examples of neighborhood, principles, real estate valuation, and affordable housing.

 Part B1: Architecture & Planning (AR)

Section 1:
History & Contemporary Architecture

This section includes a global history of architecture and principles of art and architecture, Greco-Roman, Egyptian, Renaissance, Byzantine, Baroque- Rocco, and other classical periods. It also covers contemporary architecture trends, oriental architecture, Indian vernacular and traditional architecture, and the work of well-known national and international architects.

Section 2:

Structural Systems and Building Construction

This section covers methods, building construction techniques, details and building systems, and prefabrication of building elements. It comprises principles of construction planning and equipment and modular coordination. It also discusses the characteristics and applications of building materials, alternative building materials, the principles of strength materials, as well as the designs of structural elements made of different materials.

Section 3:

Sustainability and Building Services

This section includes solar architecture, natural and mechanical ventilation in buildings, sustainable building strategies, sanitary fittings and fixtures, water supply, sewerage, and drainage systems, building performance simulation and evaluation, sewerage and drainage systems, principles of internal and external drainage systems, principles of elevators, electrification of buildings, escalators- standards and uses.

Section 1:

Regional and Settlement Planning

Initiatives and schemes of the central government, including transit-oriented development, national housing policies, public opinion, standards for community facilities and housing, housing for special areas and requirements, demarcation of regions, and hierarchical settlement arrangements.

Planning Techniques and Management

Application of Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing Techniques in regional and urban planning, tools and techniques of surveys- land use, physical, topographical, and socio-economic surveys, law demand and supply of land,  self-governance at the local level, planning legislation and implementation- Public-Private Partnerships, Land Acquisition Act, Land Information System, Infrastructure Project Management, etc.
