GATE Syllabus for Mining Engineering (MN) 2024 is formulated by IISc Bangalore, the conducting authority. GATE Syllabus for Mining Engineering (MN) 2024 has five subjects in core subjects. The core subjects include topics like mine development and surveying, mine development, mining methods of machinery, geomechanics and ground control, mining geology, geomechanics and ground control, surface environment, mining methods and machinery, underground hazards and mine ventilation, mine planning, mine economics, and systems engineering.

The GATE Syllabus for Mining Engineering (MN) 2024 is divided into three major sections including:

  1. General Aptitude (GA)
  2. Engineering Mathematics 
  3. Mining Engineering

1. General Aptitude 

The general aptitude section of the GATE Syllabus for Mining Engineering comprises topics including sentence completion, English grammar, instructions word groups, verbal analogies, numerical reasoning, data interpretation, numerical computation, and numerical estimation. 

2. Engineering Mathematics 

The Engineering Mathematics section of the GATE 2024 Syllabus for Mining Engineering includes various topics like integrals, differential equations, and matrices.

  • Linear Algebra: The topics included in this section include systems of linear equations, matrix algebra, consistency and rank, Eigen vectors, and Eigen values.
  • Calculus: The topics of this section are partial derivatives, mean value theorems, theorems of integral calculus, multiple integrals, maxima and minima, vector identities, Fourier series, line, surface and volume integral, Gauss, Stokes, and Green’s theorems.
  • Differential Equations: The topics under this section are Cauchy’s and Euler’s equations, first-order equations (linear and nonlinear), second-order linear differential equations with coefficients, initial and boundary value problems, solution of partial differential equations: Variable speed method.
  • Analysis of Complex Variables: The topics covered in this section are Cauchy’s integral theorem and integral formula, analytical functions, Taylor’s and Laurent’s series, solution of integrals, and residue theorem.
  • Numerical Methods: The topics covered in this section are solutions of nonlinear algebraic equations, matrix inversion, iterative methods for solving differential equations, regression, numerical integration, and correlation analysis.

  • Probability and Statistics
    The topics in this section comprise conditional probability, sampling theorems, mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and variance, and random variables: discrete and continuous distributions: Normal Poisson, and binomial distributions.

3. Mining Geology, Mine Development and Surveying 

The Mining Geology, mine development, and Surveying section of the GATE 2024 Syllabus for Mining Engineering comprises various topics like GIS, GPS, and Ore genesis.

The topics covered in this section are levels and leveling, tachemetry, theodolite, contouring, errors and adjustments, correlation, underground surveying, curves, photogrammetry, total station, EDM, GPS, Basics of GIS and remote sensing.

4. Geomechanics and Ground Control 

The Geomechanics and ground control section of the GATE Mining Engineering Syllabus 2024 includes topics like free body diagrams, pillar designing, and theories of rock failure.

  • Engineering Mechanics: The topics of this section are equations of equilibrium, equivalent force systems, free body diagrams, two-dimensional frames and trusses, particle kinematics and dynamics, friction forces, and beam analysis.
  • Geomechanics: The topics covered in this section are rock mass classification, geotechnical properties of rocks, instrumentation and in-situ stress measurement techniques. Other topics covered are ground vibrations, theories of rock failure, stress distribution around mine openings, subsidence, and slope stability.
  • Ground Control: The topics of this section include roof supporting systems, design of pillars, and mine filling. Other topics are strata control and monitoring plan. 

Mining Methods and Machinery 

This section of the GATE 2024 Syllabus for Mining Engineering includes various topics like material handling, wire ropes and ore handling.

  • Surface Mining: Layout, development, loading, transportation and mechanization, continuous surface mining system, High wall Mining 
  • Underground coal mining: Bord and pillar systems, room and pillar mining, longwall mining, underground metal mining, & thick seam mining methods
  • Underground Metal Mining: Open, supported, and caved-stopping methods, stop mechanization, and ore handling systems.

  • Surface Environment, Mine Ventilation, and Underground Hazards
    The mine ventilation, surface section, and underground hazards section of the GATE Syllabus for Mining Engineering 2024 includes topics like accident data analysis, pollution, and rescue apparatus.

  • Surface Environment:

1. Air, water and Soil pollution: Standards of quality, causes, and dispersion of contamination and control, noise pollution and control, land reclamation, EIA.

2. Mine Ventilation: Underground atmosphere, air cooling, heat load sources, thermal environment, distribution, mechanics of airflow, natural and mechanical ventilation, mine fans and their usage, ventilation survey and planning, auxiliary ventilation, and ventilation networks.

3. Underground hazards: The topics covered in this section are methane drainage, mine gases, underground hazards from fires, dust, explosion and inundation, safety management plan, rescue apparatus and practices, assessment, accident data analysis, mine legislation, mine lighting and occupational health and safety. 

6. Mine Economics, Mine Planning, Systems Engineering 

The section of mine economics, mine planning, and system engineering section of the GATE Syllabus for Mining Engineering 2024 includes topics like geostatistics, mineral taxation, concepts of reliability, etc.
