What is a good GMAT score?

A good GMAT score is a one that will get you an Admit. B-Schools use many parameters to evaluate a candidate besides his/her GMAT score. Still, as a safe practice, one can say that a good GMAT score is one that is equal to your target school’s median or average score, and a great GMAT score is one that exceeds the school’s median or average. Another useful rule of thumb for ensuring that your GMAT score will be considered “good enough” for admission to your target school is to aim for at least 80 percentile in every section to show a balanced score on overall basis.

How important are GMAT sectional scores?

Unlike the popular belief that getting a 700 out of 800 on the total GMAT® score is all that is required, B-school admission committees actually look at your scores minutely. Your AWA score, IR score, Verbal section score and Quantitative score are all weighed by the B-schools, not just your total score. Different admission committees have different requirements – while some B-schools look for a balanced score across all sections, few others look for a high quantitative section score.
