The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was established in 1963 as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry to contribute in the skill building for the external trade sector of India. It has come a long way to successfully develop into a unique institution involved in imparting knowledge through research and training in international business and trade. The Institute was granted “Deemed University” status in 2002. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has recognized IIFT as Grade ‘A’ Institution in 2005 as well as in 2015. Over the years, IIFT has emerged as the national university with focus on International business Management and Strategy, and such focus is reflected in all three major activities of the Institute: Research, Training and Education.
IIFT 2016 was taken by approximately 45,000 candidates and in 2015 was taken by 37,723 candidates out of 42,976 registrations. IIFT has two campuses in India- Delhi and Kolkata with the total number of seats being 360 (220 in the Delhi campus and 140 in the Kolkata campus.) This year IIFT has also launched Kakinada campus however, IIFT will be functioning in a rented premise in Kakinada subject to approval of UGC. A plot of about 25 acres has been allotted to IIFT by Government of Andhra Pradesh in Kakinada. The campus at Kakinada with similar facilities as at Delhi & Kolkata Campus, including residential provisions is expected to be ready in three years.
MBA (International Business) is a six trimester general management programme with a focus on International Business for developing a competent cadre of business executives to meet the country's growing requirements for trained personnel in the field of International Business Management.
In 2018, 31 students got international offerers across locations such as South America, Thailand, Africa and South-East countries: a 55% jump from last year.
The overall average CTC offered was 19.23 LPA compared to 18.41 LPA last year. The domestic average CTC and the median CTC were 18.27 and 17 LPA respectively
Highest International package offered was $150,000. The highest domestic package stood at Rs. 29 LPA.
The 2018 batch of IIFT received 94 PPOs, an increase of 29.10% over 2017.
Four students received a package of $150,000 per annum along with another 7 students receiving packages above $80,000.
First time associations with 35 organizations such as Acquisory Consulting, Adani Group, Arcesium, Avendus Capital, BMW, CP Group, Deloitte USI (S&O) EXL, i3 Consulting, Mother Dairy, Murugappa Group, OYO Rooms, PepsiCo, Shapoorji Pallonji, Sterlite Power, Tech Mahindra, VECV, VF Corporation and Yes Bank among others.
In 2017, three IIFT students were offered more than Rs. 1 crore salary package. Six students have got more than Rs. 75 lacs per annum in international placements. 81 companies recruited all students of Delhi and Kolkata Centre. The highest international salary package offered was US$1.5 lacs per annum and the highest domestic package was Rs. 26 lacs per annum. The average salary offered was Rs. 18.43 lacs per annum. 20 international offers were made. Students bagged 74 Pre Placement Offers (PPOs) this year. Leading recruiters across all domain recruited IIFT students this year.

This year IIFT is going to be conducted on 26th November 2017 in paper based format. The eligibility to register and apply for IIFT is recognized Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline. Candidate appearing in the final year examination of Graduation can also apply subject to submission of proof of requisite qualification by next year 7th October 2017. There is no age limit to apply to IIFT.
